Recently, YouGov conducted a survey from 7,150 US citizens. The question asked was “Do you consider the countries listed below to be a friend or an enemy of the United States?” The number of listed countries was 144, but only 15 were randomly selected for each participant.  The response options were “Ally”, “Friendly”, “Unfriendly”, “Enemy” or “Not Sure” for each country.

According to the results, only 8% think we are enemies. In reality, Kazakhstan and USA have a really good relationship. US was the first country to admit our independence back in 1991. And since that time they are collaborating to meet global challenges and most pressing issues. In June 2015, both sides agreed to strengthen their cooperation in fighting against ISIL, terrorism, and violent extremism, and the United States thanked Kazakhstan for hosting a regional conference. However, only 2% of participants were aware of the fact that these two countries were allies. But, nevertheless, at least 19%think we are friends, which is a better result compared to, for example, Russia.

Unfortunately, 56% answered “”Not Sure” probably because of being unfamiliar with Kazakhstan. Personally, I believe that more US citizens would respond positively to this survey if only they were aware of how both countries are equally concerned about each other’s problems and what kind of common actions they are taking to make the world a better place to live.
