The Universiade – an international multi-sport event which is organised for university athletes – is held under the auspices of the International University Sports Federation (FISU). Students of all levels graduating the year before the Universiade and who are between the ages of 17 and 28 can take part in the competitions.
In 2017, Kazakhstan was the host country for Universiade-2017. It was held between January 29th and February 8th in Almaty. There were many preparations for this event, including constructions of new sport venues and athlete villages with over 50,000 workers, training 3000 volunteers, etc.
It has been 24 years since Kazakhstan became a participant country in Universiade. And overall we won 125 medals. It was a great honour for us to welcome 2000 athletes from over 60 countries this year.
